App Store Age Rating
SchoolBoardHQ has been rated:
While the app's content calculates to a 4+ rating (no objectionable material), we override the App Store age rating to 18+. This matches the current Terms of Service access requirement: users must be at least 18 years old, or older if their state requires a higher age of majority.
Why 18+?
SchoolBoardHQ serves America's approximately 90,000 K-12 school board members. For beta and MVP launch, the app is limited to elected and appointed board members who are legal adults in their state of residence.
We chose 18+ to:
- Match the minimum age requirement in our Terms of Service.
- Reflect that the app includes professional peer-to-peer messaging and governance discussion for adult public officials.
- Keep future student-representative access out of scope until additional safeguards, consent flows, and legal review are completed.
Intended Audience
The primary audience is elected and appointed school board members who are legal adults. Student representatives under 18 are a possible post-MVP audience, but they are not eligible during beta or MVP launch. The app is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for use by children under 13.
- All users must complete a board member verification process during onboarding, which matches their identity against official school board records.
- The app is not categorized as "Made for Kids" and is not subject to COPPA or children's privacy rules.
- Users under 18 are not permitted during beta or MVP launch. Users under 13 are not permitted at any phase.
