SchoolBoardHQ has been rated:

While the app's content calculates to a 4+ rating (no objectionable material), we have overridden the age rating to 13+. This reflects that SchoolBoardHQ includes peer-to-peer messaging between verified users and is designed for school board governance — content best suited for teens and adults.

Why 13+?

SchoolBoardHQ serves America's approximately 90,000 K-12 school board members. In the future, the app may also support student representatives — high school students who serve on school boards in an advisory or voting capacity. These student members are typically ages 14–18.

We chose 13+ to:

Ensure the app is available to student representatives who may serve on school boards.
Reflect that the app includes messaging and user-generated content features appropriate for ages 13 and up.
Align with standard minimum age requirements for social and communication platforms.

Intended Audience

The primary audience is elected school board members (adults). Student representatives (ages 13+) are a planned secondary audience. The app is not designed for, marketed to, or intended for use by children under 13.

All users must complete a board member verification process during onboarding, which matches their identity against a national directory of school board officials.
The app is not categorized as "Made for Kids" and is not subject to COPPA or children's privacy rules.
Users under 13 are not permitted. The verification process restricts access to directory-listed board members and student representatives.

User-Generated Content Yes

Users can create profile bios, display names, and exchange private messages with other verified board members. All user-generated content is limited to private peer-to-peer communication — there is no public feed, social posting, or content broadcasting.

The app includes private one-to-one messaging between verified school board members. Messages are only visible to participants and are protected by database-level access controls. Users can block other members and report inappropriate content.

Unrestricted Web Access No

The app does not contain a web browser and does not allow users to navigate to external websites.

SchoolBoardHQ contains no advertising, sponsored content, or paid promotions of any kind.

No violent content of any kind, including cartoon/fantasy violence, realistic violence, or depictions of weapons.

Safety Measures

SchoolBoardHQ includes the following safeguards:

Identity verification — Users are matched against a national directory of school board members during onboarding. Only verified board members and student representatives have full access.
Private messaging — All messages are one-to-one and visible only to participants. There is no public feed or broadcast capability.
User blocking — Any user can block another member to prevent further communication.
Content reporting — Users can report inappropriate messages or behavior for review by the moderation team.
Data encryption — All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Sensitive credentials are stored using platform-native secure storage (iOS Keychain, Android Keystore).
